Wendy's Canada Introduces the OREO Brownie Frosty and Asks Canadians to Settle a Debate - Do you Dip or Dunk Fries in a Frosty?
If you ask Canadians how they eat an OREO® cookie, you'll get a firm answer: dip or dunk. There is no in between.
Another version of that debate has been playing out at Wendy’s® Canada restaurants for years, with fans pairing our Hot and Crispy Fries with the beloved Frosty®. But, do the same dipping and dunking techniques apply? With the arrival of the new OREO Brownie Frosty we’re answering the question once and for all.
Do You Dip, or Do You Dunk?
A new national survey commissioned by Wendy's Canada, reveals Canadians treat the two pairings completely differently, and Canada has some clear frontrunners in the dip or dunk debate.
- With OREO cookies and milk, the country is split down the middle. Roughly three in ten Canadians (31%) say they'd dip an OREO, and just under a quarter (23%) say they'd dunk.
- But with fries and Frosty, there’s no contest. One in four Canadians (25%) say they'd put their fries in a Frosty, and then ‘dippers’ outnumber ‘dunkers’ by about five to one.
- More than three in four Gen Z Canadians (77%) say they'd dip or dunk their OREO cookies in milk — the highest of any generation.
- Quebec is Canada's OREO-dipping capital. Four in ten Quebecers (41%) say they'd dip over dunk, more than any other region in the country. However, they’re also the least likely to pair fries with a Frosty at 18%.
- B.C. leads the country in the Wendy’s combination with 30% of people saying they would put their fries in a Frosty.
A Pairing That Divides Consumers
The fries and Frosty combination is divided sharply by age with younger Canadians out-dipping older Frosty-lovers.
- Nearly half (48%) of Canadians aged 18 to 34 say they'd dip or dunk their fries in a Frosty, compared with nearly three in ten (29%) of those aged 35 to 54 and 6% of those 55 and over. Among Gen Z it climbs to more than half.
- Households with kids are well ahead of the curve too: 36% of Canadians with children at home say they'd dip or dunk, against 22% of those without.
Pick Your Side
No matter if you ‘dip’ or ‘dunk’, the new OREO Brownie Frosty is available at Wendy's Canada restaurants nationwide until October 25. Bringing together Canada’s #1 Cookie and the beloved Frosty, made with 100% Canadian dairy, with a rich brownie batter swirl and then topped off with real OREO cookie pieces. This new flavour is going to get Frosty fans from coast-to-coast talking.
Available with either a Chocolate or Vanilla Frosty base, the new flavour comes in every size at restaurants nationwide. How you choose to enjoy it is entirely up to you but, we’d argue, it’s the perfect pairing for your next order of Wendy’s Hot and Crispy Fries.
Methodology: These findings are from a survey from respondents' part of the Angus Reid Forum on behalf of Wendy's Canada, from September 11–15, 2026, among a representative sample of 1,518 online adult Canadians who are members of the Angus Reid Forum. The survey was conducted in English and French. For comparison purposes only, a probability sample of this size would carry a margin of error of +/-2.53 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
